FDP ON ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY AND SPEECH THERAPY IN NEUROLOGICAL AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS

The FDP on Role of Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy in Neurological and Musculoskeletal Disorders was organised by Medical Education Technology cell and Department of PG studies in Panchakarma of our Institution on 30-12-2025, Tuesday from 9.30am to 4.30 pm.

The Resource persons for the FDP were Dr. Kalashree H A, Associate Professor, JSS College of Physiotherapy, Mysuru and Dr. Gunasagar S. M, Assistant Professor, Department of Speech Language Pathology, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru.

The programme started with Lord Dhanwantari prayer. The guests and the gathering were welcomed by Dr. Veena G. Rao, Professor and Head, Department of PG Studies in Panchakarma. Dr. Sarbeswar Kar, Principal, JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital gave the opening remarks. This was followed by scientific sessions. At the end Dr. Manasa S D, Assistant Professor, Department of PG Studies in Panchakarma rendered the Vote of Thanks.

There were three scientific sessions.

The first session was by Dr. Kalashree H A, Associate Professor, Department of Musculoskeletal Science, JSS College of Physiotherapy who spoke on the topic “Role of Physiotherapy in Neurological and Musculoskeletal Disorders”. The presentation was very interesting with practical demonstrations of exercises that can be advised in various musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. The speaker also highlighted areas of integration of Ayurveda and Physiotherapy in providing quality patient care.

The second session was by Dr. Gunasagar S. M, Assistant Professor, Department of Speech Language Pathology, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru, on the topic “Role of Speech Therapy in Neurological Conditions”. The presentation was enriched with a brief introduction to speech, language, comprehension physiology and pathology. The speaker also enlightened the participants regarding the management of speech language disorders and swallowing disorders through clinical experiences and successful case studies.

The third session was an activity session where the delegates were divided into small groups and given different case scenarios. They were asked to note down discussion points such as the primary issue in the case, the role of Ayurveda, when to refer the case for Physiotherapy, and the expected outcome.

Overall, it was a wonderful knowledge session with interactive discussions on the role of Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy in Neurological and Musculoskeletal Disorders, benefiting more than 60 teaching staff members.
